DOO-DOO DOO!!! ALA-TV! (opening theme music)
(lots of claps)
Announcer: You’re watching “News All Night” on ALA-TV. This is our host Pierre Madison and two special guests…
Pierre: Welcome everyone to “News All Night.” These are our guests: Mrs. Maderny a retired drama teacher for public schools. And sitting next to her is Mr. Yoskin from the Pittsburgh Board of Education. We’re here tonight to debate drama programs in public schools.
Mrs. Maderny: Thank you, Pierre, and can I just say that I’m very excited to be here!
Mr. Yoskin: As am I.
Pierre: OK, enough chit-chat and on with the discussion. So, do you think we should have drama programs in public schools. Mr. Yoskin?
Mr. Yoskin: No drama program would cost too much money. How would we get the money for the teacher’s salary, and all the supplies?!
Mrs. Maderny: We can hold several fundraising events for money, and at the end of the year we will have a big performance and charge an admission fee.
Mr. Yoskin: Well I suppose so, but I still think it’s a waste of time and money.
Pierre: So Mr. Yoskin, do you have any other reasons why you disagree with Mrs. Maderny?
Mr. Yoskin: Yes! I think it wouldn’t be popular enough to be worth it.
Mrs. Maderny: I don’t think so. A lot of people like drama. Also, did you know that at a high school in California, the rate of students attending college went up ten percent after a popular drama program was introduced there. [Facts in this skit are fake.]
Mr. Yoskin: I didn’t know that, actually. However, we don’t know if that is going to happen in this case. Besides, how will a drama program—other than possibly being a bit fun—help students in life?
Mrs. Maderny: Well, people can get jobs as actors, and they’ll be helped a great deal with that if they have a drama program in school.
Pierre: Might I add that when I was a boy, my school had a drama program and I think that is what inspired me—and helped me—get this job here.
Mrs. Maderny and Mr. Yoskin (together): Oh really!
Mrs. Maderny: See, Mr. Yoskin!
Pierre: Sorry to interrupt, but that’s all the time we have for today. See you next time, folks, on “News All Night.”
